Welcome to Singapore, Inc. I can think of no other place on earth with a history that more closely mirrors the story of the entrepreneur.
Singapore is a tiny dot on the world map— easily missed or dismissed. It is a tropical island with a geographical footprint of only 680 square kilometers (420 square miles) that is home to a mere 4 million residents of mixed heritage.
Singapore has no natural resources and, throughout its short history, has been forced to compete for investments and opportunities in a neighborhood of giants. The island is surrounded by countries like Indonesia (population: 230 million), the Philippines (population: 85 million), Thailand (population: 62 million) and Malaysia (population: 22 million).
How, then, did a country so small, so disadvantaged from the outset, find within itself the will to strive, compete and evolve into one of the world's leading cities?
Today Singapore ranks among the best places in the world in which to live in and do business. We have the cleanest government, the freest economy and the world's best sea and air ports. Singapore has achieved this stellar growth all while retaining its unique blend of modernity and Asian charm— the region offers a kaleidoscope of color and culture that makes any visit to the country truly memorable and engaging.
The story of Singapore revolves around a small group of leaders who, like you, dared to think beyond their means ... to “Think Big” and take on the world! It is a story of surmounting insurmountable odds. It is a story not only of survival, but of triumph. The Singapore story is my story, just as it is your story, and, we daresay, it is our story.
