EO Brisbane member Wayne Fowler’s company, Gilkatho, was named “Small Employer of the Year” at the Queensland Training Awards on 11 September. The awards recognize outstanding work in the area of education and training.

Gilkatho is a coffee distribution business based in Milton that employs nine staff. As Managing Director, Wayne said the prestigious award recognized the commitment made by his staff to further their career development.

“By taking part in career development training in the workplace, employees are able to develop new skills, making the business more productive,” he said. “In tough financial times, productivity is more important than ever.”

Wayne added that he considered it an honor to have competed against the other worthy finalists and have his company’s training plans scrutinized by industry judges.

“There are so many companies making significant investments in staff training. For Gilkatho to come this far is an honor,” he said. “Encouraging staff development makes good business sense.”
