ROM LAPOINTE
EO Detroit member since 2006, Global Board Director
Membership in the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) has become a way of life for entrepreneur, business leader and executive coach, Rom Lapointe, opening doors to leadership, travel, and friendship opportunities he never imagined as a youth growing up in urban Detroit. An advisor to CEOs, leadership teams and corporate boards, Rom is CEO of Capricorn Leadership, a privately-owned executive coaching business that he founded in 2015. He has been a member of EO Detroit since 2006 and joined the EO Global Board of Directors in July 2023 for a three-year term.
A serial entrepreneur, Rom has served as CEO for 10 privately held companies since 1995, including six he founded and four that were acquired. He has helped more than 75 companies in various industries throughout his coaching career at Capricorn Leadership. Today his clients include several Inc 5000 businesses and a company on the Vet 100, a list that spotlights the fastest-growing, veteran-owned businesses in the United States. Rom estimates he has helped more than 7,000 companies worldwide through his coaching, speaking engagements, and workshops. He believes his business would not exist without the depth of learning, peer exchange, and practical leadership development he has gained as a member of EO.
Rom’s journey in EO’s Path of Leadership has seen him volunteer for numerous chapter, regional, and global leadership positions, including EO Detroit chapter president in 2010-11. He cites his 2011 participation in EO's Global Leadership Academy as a major steppingstone in his learning journey. Rom later served as EO’s U.S. Central Area Director and chaired the organization's Strategy Summit Subcommittee from 2018-2020. Just prior to his global board election, he led the global network’s Global Leadership Committee and Organizational Design Team.
The son of a Teamster labor union member, Rom was the first in his family to graduate from college, earning his undergraduate degree in scientific and technical communication from Michigan Technological University. In April 2023, Rom received a life-saving kidney transplant and credits his family and EO community with expediting the process of finding a living donor. He cares deeply about raising awareness for organ donation and now serves on the board of directors for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. Rom and his wife live outside Detroit and are the proud parents of two daughters and two sons.
