  • Round: Semi-Finalist
  • Country: Mexico
  • Company: Celal-Mex
  • Region: LAC

Did you know that the industry demands 400 million tons of cellulose? And for that it is necessary to cut down 6.8 billion trees, this without counting the amount of water used and polluted. For that reason Adolfo looked for sustainable sources of cellulose and found Don Marcelo, a Mexican pineapple producer, who told him and his team that the biggest challenge in farming is the management of his more than 1,600 tons of waste per year. That's why they created Celal-Mex, a Startup dedicated to the use of agricultural by-products for the sustainable production of cellulose, starch and other bioproducts. Their production would be avoiding the cut down of 4,500 trees annually, which is equivalent to a quarter of the Chapultepec forest. Their potential clients are packaging, extruder and manufacturing companies. The market is currently worth $USD 18 million, with a growth rate of 9.8% per year by 2028.
