Benjamin’s goal is to produce edible consumer goods that empowers and increases the standard of living for communities in West Africa. He and his partner achieve this through Five North Chocolate. Five North is a social and health conscious chocolate company that sources fair trade certified cocoa from West Africa and creates deliciously nutritious chocolate snacks. As a social “food-preneur”, Benjamin’s biggest challenge has been to strengthen his culinary skills to more adeptly create recipes that stand out in the chocolate market. He believes that “Thirst for Learning- Be a student of opportunity” describes him best as an entrepreneur:
“The motto I live by is "You don't know what you don't know." It's simple but has a complex meaning when you really try to understand it. You'll never know the things that are currently unknown to you. And therefore, I find it extremely important to look for the unexpected, leave judgment out of the equation, and just go for it.”
This attitude to life has enabled him to confidently take on various opportunities which range from jug juggling on a unicycle, speaking at TEDx and being a US Congress-German Bundestag Youth Exchange fellow.
