Eric Chean’s journey is characterized by taking bold risks despite discouraging comments from his friends and family. He left a top Accountancy degree program in his hometown for an internship opportunity in Dubai and quit full-time employment so that he could create Marine Nexus, an online platform that aims to connect vessel providers to vessel procurers more efficiently and cost effectively. Eric has such a bold lease on life because he believes that human beings are their only limitations to achieving their dreams and, in every risk lies the opportunity for new potential.
In his journey thus far, the biggest obstacle he has overcome is translating his traditional skill set to the digital world. It has also been challenging for him to design and develop his business model within an unfamiliar market and as a result, build consumer interest. Aside from being such a bold risk-taker, Eric says he is awesome because he is his own motivator: “I always rely on my own judgement and if I believe in something, I will not waver even in the face of skepticism and doubt, not to succumb to popular opinion.”
