Yvette Ishimwe
- Round: Semi-Finalist
- Country: Rwanda
- Company: IRIBA Clean Water Delivery Ltd
- Region: MEPA
Concerned about community health and seeing an opportunity for innovation, Yvette started IRIBA to supply clean and affordable water to her local community in Kayonza, Rwanda. Her biggest obstacle is the burden of tackling the various complexities to water scarcity problem in Kayonza. Yvettee sees these problems as her social responsibility:
“People in my community were having a very difficult challenge of water scarcity. Children were always late to attend their classes, and some even dropped out of schools due to the time they spent waiting to collect water for their homes. Women were unable to do any other productive activity. We were too remote to wait for the government to build more water systems, and the water that people were using was not often clean...”
As an entrepreneur, Yvette sees herself as a student of opportunity with a thirst for learning.
This mindset keeps her open to new experiences and optimistic about failures. She never sees problems as they are, but instead as opportunities to serve her community, influence others, and make profits.
She looks forward to expanding her vision of clean, sufficient water to all seven districts in the Eastern province of Rwanda, as well as 30 boarding schools.
