Guatemalan Entrepreneur Named as Entrepreneur Organization’s Global Chair-Elect
Joaquín Cordero chosen by EO members to become the network’s second-ever leader from Latin America serving in its top leadership position
Alexandria, Virginia, USA/Guatemala City, Guatemala (19 July 2024) – The Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) announces the election and ratification of Guatemalan business leader Joaquín “Quini” Cordero as its Global Chair-Elect for FY2024/2025, a position that will precede his term serving as Global Chair of EO’s Board of Directors next year (FY2025/2026).
An EO member and volunteer leader in the organization since 2012 through its chapter in Guatemala, Cordero has played an integral role in securing EO’s growth and member loyalty across the Latin America/Caribbean (LAC) region. He will be the second leader from that Region to rise to the position of EO Global Chair in the organization’s 36-year history.
Since 1987, EO’s purpose has been to move the world forward by unlocking entrepreneurs’ abilities to connect, learn from each other, and grow as leaders. During his 12 years of active membership, Cordero’s growth trajectory has personified what EO offers business leaders from all countries and sectors. Shortly after becoming a member of EO Guatemala, he embarked on his own Path of Leadership within the organization, first serving in chapter board roles for EO Guatemala before rising to the position of that chapter’s president (2015/2016). Cordero later advanced to global committee roles and regional leadership positions, becoming Regional Chair for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2021/2022. His growth journey culminated in Cordero’s election to EO’s Global Board in July 2023.
“I am humbled and beyond grateful for the opportunity to serve as the future Global Chair of EO,” said Cordero. “Being selected by my peers is truly an honor and I look forward to collaborating with our committed staff and engaged member leaders to fulfill our strategic vision for 2030; while we live our purpose of moving the world forward by unlocking the full potential of entrepreneurs.”
In his dozen years in the membership network, Cordero has capitalized on many additional opportunities for his personal and professional development by graduating the Entrepreneurial Master’s Program with MIT (2013-2015), EO’s Global Leadership Academy in 2015 and its Regional Leadership Academy in 2022. This same year, he co-founded The School of Presidents for EO’s chapter presidents across LAC, an initiative he is proud to have championed.
Cordero added, “Being in EO has been a spiritual home for me. I have made meaningful friendships, tackled difficult challenges, while learning firsthand about true leadership. I feel compelled to support and share the experiences with other entrepreneurs.”
Cordero will work alongside EO’s current Global Chair, Jamie Pujara, and EO’s Global Board of Directors to drive its strategic vision and growth as the premier organization for leading business owners to access peer connection, learning and growth. Pujara expressed his confidence in Cordero as well as his enthusiasm about collaborating this coming year.
“I am genuinely excited about my upcoming partnership with Quini as we build on not only EO’s success over the past year, but also represent two of EO’s regions that have achieved high rates of growth,” said Pujara, who rose to Global Chair through membership in EO Kenya. “He generously shares his time, expertise and heart with our fellow EO members and it is this spirit of giving that makes Quini so right for this role.”
An avid rock climber, enduro motorcyclist and open water swimmer, Cordero lives in Guatemala City with his wife of 19 years, their daughter, and two rescued dogs.
