(Hong Kong, China / Virginia, U.S.) – The Greater Bay Area in Southern China has recently become an epicenter for evolutions in tech and finance and is now home to the Entrepreneurs’ Organization’s (EO) newest chapter. The EO Greater Bay Area Metropolitan chapter consists of 25 founding members who are passionate about fostering entrepreneurial excellence across the vibrant region, which has become a haven for innovators and is ripe for growth. The chapter consists of EO members who spend much of their time visiting and conducting business in China, but who largely hail from other countries.
Located in southern coastal China, the Greater Bay Area is home to cities like Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. While encompassing only 1 percent of China’s landmass, it has 86 million inhabitants and accounts for 12 percent of China’s gross domestic product. The region’s GDP of roughly US$2 trillion would rank 11th in the world if it were its own country, putting it on par with large economies like Canada and Brazil.
“The combination of these entrepreneurs and the economically dynamic location can bring great opportunity—for diverse membership, for learning, and fostering an inclusive culture of global entrepreneurship,” said David Chan, an 11-year EO member who belongs to EO through its nearby China East chapter. David will also serve as EO’s incoming North Asia Regional Chair for FY2025/2026.
“This launch is a testament of entrepreneurial connection and collaboration, locally and internationally.”
EO Greater Bay Area Metropolitan is structured similarly to other EO chapters in thriving regions that cater to expat entrepreneurs, such as EO Beijing Metropolitan, EO Tokyo Metropolitan, and EO Kansai Metropolitan. “The strategic value for these chapters is they truly connect a global community in a localized business context, serving as a bridge and an international connection hub in Asia,” David added.
EO Greater Bay Area Metropolitan’s inaugural chapter president is relatively new EO member, David McCann, an Irish citizen currently residing in Hong Kong. He is the founder of Arc Orient Pacific Capital, a merchant bank and family office business, and he has decades of entrepreneurial experience across the United States, Australia, and Asia.
“A big driver for the chapter was that the existing chapters in the region—Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou—are well-established and well-designed for local members,” David McCann said. “Whereas we felt we needed a chapter to accommodate those entrepreneurs who traverse across the region and where English was the common language as opposed to Mandarin.”
The 25 founding members represent 21 different industries. Their businesses have a median revenue of US$5 million, and four members are under the age of 35. The chapter aspires to reach 120 members in five years. To qualify, successful business owners of any sector must show annual revenues of at least US$1 million in the year they apply for membership.
EO Greater Bay Area Metropolitan held a launch party on 9 March in Hong Kong. Roughly 60 people attended, including the founding chapter members and their spouses and life partners, as well as EO members of other nearby EO chapters. Also in attendance were EO Interim Executive Director and former Global Board Chair Jamie Pujara, new EO Global Board Chair Joaquín Cordero (EO Guatemala), and EO Global Board Directors Alan Cheung (EO Hong Kong), and Julie Vergara (EO Philippines South).

The chapter’s next major event will be hosted by author and original EO founder Verne Harnish, an expert in scaling strategies, from 10-11 July in Shenzhen. Learn more about EO’s newest chapter on LinkedIn.
